Corazon Filipino Hispano Cuisine by Chef Florabel

Corazon was one of the restaurants that caught our attention when we explored Shangri-la's east wing for the very first time.  The red and white striped chairs in the "al fresco" dining area resembled candy canes.  The colorfully designed sorbetes cart was a nice attraction as well.  Plus we learned that Corazon was from the same people behind Elias and Crisostomo.  So when my in laws were thinking of a restaurant to celebrate hubby's birthday, my sister in law's birthday and father's day, Corazon was the obvious choice.

We arrived at around 11am and the "indoor" dining area was already jampacked.  There were tables set up on both sides of the restaurant and in front.  We claimed the area with the cute red and white candy cane chairs.

We shared 3 different appetizers among us and my favorite was the Cabrillo.    The bread was layered with garlic butter, kesong puti, chorizo and a quail egg.  It was the perfect bite.  A bit heavy for an appetizer but well worth it.  One order has six servings and a side of potato chips which my niece munched on.  She's at that stage where she eats anything crunchy.

The Mejillones was just your run of the mill mussels with loads of cheese and some garlic.

The Cortes was too spicy for my tastebuds but the rest of the fam enjoyed it.  The sauce masked the hotness a bit.

We had the Molo Soup to warm our tummies.  It's different from the usual Pancit Molo that I'm used to.  This one tasted like a creamy Chinese soup, like egg drop soup.

It was my first time to sample kuhol.  The Caracoles wasn't that bad but it's not something I would eagerly order.

Sadly this pretty Ensaladang Manileña went straight to the takeaway bag.  We were too distracted with the other dishes.

The vegetables in the Pinakbet with Lechon Kawali were thinly sliced.  The dish was seasoned well, the vegetables cooked just right and the lechon kawali was the perfect icing on the cake.

Since we were celebrating several occasions, we couldn't pass up on the Lechon de Mora.  We got the smallest serving, the quarter.  It was more of a fried lechon, think Crispy Pata.  I liked the soy vinegar sauce more than the lechon sauce but the meat was good on its own.

The Adobo Rice was a meal in itself (kanin pa lang ulam na).  This is something I would order in a heartbeat.  The server said that this was good for 2-3 people but he was talking to me and hubby after all.  I would say this could be shared by even 4-5 people especially when paired with other dishes.

Another crowd favorite was the Paloma.  The grilled fish was so fresh and meaty.  We couldn't stop raving about how great it was.

Corazon's menu was eye catching and colorful.  Photos were splattered all over the pages which helped us decide on what to order.  Although the photos and the actual dishes were not identical, they were close enough.  I feel robbed when the food doesn't look at all like the menu photos.

It was a Sunday and Father's Day when we dined there.  The restaurant quickly filled up and there was a long waiting line about halfway through our meal.  We had a challenging time calling for attention and ice/water/drink refill requests had to be repeated at least thrice.  They would acknowledge us but forget to bring us what we needed.  Could it be that they weren't prepared for the Father's Day crowd?  Or were they spreading themselves too thin by having 4 dining areas?  We were starting to get restless and a bit annoyed so we complained but they still served us with a smile.  After we said our piece, they were more attentive.

Despite the slight hiccup I still enjoyed this particular lunch.  I will include Corazon in my list of restaurants reserved for special occasions.    I would gladly order the Cabrillo, Adobo Rice and Paloma all over again.  And I would ask them if that pretty sorbetes cart has actual ice cream in it.
