A Great Find at Gourdo's

Christmas and New Year celebrations with my in laws isn't complete without mom's roast turkey or pot roast.  She was using a 9x13 inch pyrex to prepare these wonderful dishes.  She would have to check regulary and scoop out any excess juices or sauce for fear of spilling over.  So for the past few years, we've been searching for an inexpensive deep roasting pan w/ a rack.  Although we were tempted one visit at S&R, we didn't want to spend P2,499.95 for this Kitchen Aid roasting pan that would be used just a couple of times a year.

Imagine our delight when we stumbled upon this.

The BakerEze 14.5 x 10.5 x 2 inch roast and lasagna pan was a steal at P560!  Can't wait to try this soon!

Beef and Veggies in Mushroom Sauce

A semi successful experiment.  I had no idea what to cook one night.  So I just mixed in some ingredients together.

Le Delice Deli Shop and Restaurant

My sister in law and her family moved from their cozy condo unit to a more spacious house a few months ago.  Before they settled in, we drove down south to check out which things needed to be repaired, painted, cleaned etc.  After the inspection, our grumbling stomachs led us to their clubhouse where we stumbled upon Le Delice.  It's a mini convenience store, deli shop and restaurant rolled into one.  The owner of Santi's runs this place according to my brother in law.

The Kebab Factory

My birth month June is peak season for our families.  We celebrate the birthdays of my dad, maternal grandfather (which I wrote about here), husband and sister in law to name a few from the long long list.

For my husband and sister in law's birthday dinner, we decided to steer away from our usual restaurant and cuisine choices.  We met up at The Kebab Factory in Burgos Circle.

The stars of the night were the Papadum Masala and Spinach and Feta Cheese Dip.

The Papadum Masala smelled good and looked appetizing.  The crunch of the fried lentil wafers went well with the onions, tomatoes and coriander.

Chicken ala King

My version of chicken ala king.  Best served hot with either rice or bread.  I had this with some bread and I scooped up the sauce with it.

Crave Burger

Always do your grocery shopping on a full stomach.  We noticed that we tend to grab a lot of stuff we don't need when our stomachs are grumbling thus inflating our bill.

Last week, we arrived at Shopwise later than our usual first wedneseday schedule so we decided to have dinner before anything else.  We ordered the Crave Combo #1 (P190), Crave Burger with Skinny Fries and a 12oz drink.

S&R Members' Treat 2011

Are you ready for this?  My mother in law received a text alert a few weeks back.  My mom called a couple of minutes ago and reminded me that the big sale is in fact this weekend!

Beef Steak with Potato Wedges

My husband and mom in law both exclaimed "wow" when they saw our dinner tonight.

The Filipino steak was on sale on our last grocery run, a sign that we cook some beef steak which we have not had in months.  My first time to prepare it with potato wedges.

Snack Clips

Don't you just hate it when your leftover chips or cookies aren't as crisp or crunchy anymore? Some people tend to leave unfinished bags of chips lying around... and open or some just fold them loosely. Why not get yourself some of these cute and colorful snack clips from Ikea?

Red Palace Seafood Restaurant

Chinese food has always been our fall back whenever we don't feel like fastfood and can't think of anywhere else to eat.  That is definitely not the case for Red Palace, we choose to dine there.

In our numerous visits, my favorite among all the dishes we have tried is the Fish Fillet with Tausi.  I love the sauce, the crispness of the vegetables and how everything comes together.

Oatmeal Crusted Cream Dory

As we were growing up, it was instilled in us that it is not good to waste food.  That we should only get what we could finish.  That there are others, even children, who are not as fortunate as us.  That there are people who can not afford to eat three meals a day. We were not excused from the dining table until our plates were cleared, even if it meant we had to stay there the whole night.

So in the same manner, I try my best to make use of all the ingredients in our kitchen before they expire or go bad. Whenever I dispose of something, I feel guilty knowing that someone could have eaten what I just threw out.  And besides that's money out the window too.

So for tonight's dinner, I used up some oatmeal that's been stashed in a lock and lock container for several months now.

Our Birthday Spread

For as long as I can remember, my birthday was always a big deal.  I share the same birthday with my lolo (grandfather) who celebrates it with the entire family every year. There's always a dinner or lunch with the whole clan at one of the restaurants or at my tito's (uncle) house.

Delimondo Corned Beef

SALE! is a deadly word for someone who is on a tight budget and is an impulsive buyer.  My first instinct when I saw the Delimondo Corned Beef price slash at S&R a few weeks ago was to call my mom.  We got a couple of cans for her and for us although we still had a few in our pantry.

I prefer the original Ranch Style Corned Beef over the Garlic and Chili Corned Beef.  The spicy one was too hot for me to eat so we mixed up a can of each flavor for breakfast last week.  Even the husband who is fond of spicy food found the combination still too spicy.

We have tried preparing this with just onions, with diced potatoes and onions and very dry and almost crisp the way my sister eats her corned beef.  There are still a few cans here at home that i might just use for pasta.

Yellow Cab

During the 90's, one of my favorite movies was Little Rascals. I didn't mind watching those cute kids over and over again.  Can you guess what this movie has in common with Yellow Cab?
