Oatmeal Crusted Cream Dory

As we were growing up, it was instilled in us that it is not good to waste food.  That we should only get what we could finish.  That there are others, even children, who are not as fortunate as us.  That there are people who can not afford to eat three meals a day. We were not excused from the dining table until our plates were cleared, even if it meant we had to stay there the whole night.

So in the same manner, I try my best to make use of all the ingredients in our kitchen before they expire or go bad. Whenever I dispose of something, I feel guilty knowing that someone could have eaten what I just threw out.  And besides that's money out the window too.

So for tonight's dinner, I used up some oatmeal that's been stashed in a lock and lock container for several months now.

What I did with the fish fillets

  • Seasoned with McCormick Grill Mates Lemon Pepper with Herbs
  • Rolled in flour
  • Dipped in a beaten egg
  • Rolled in oatmeal
  • Deep fried in vegetable oil
  • Drained on paper towels

The fish was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.  The lemony taste stood out.  We were out of tartar sauce so we spread on some garlic ranch salad dressing instead. It was good too but we preferred the fish on its own.

*update
The husband wasn't able to join us for dinner.  This was his baon (packed lunch) today.  He just reheated it in the oven toaster in the morning and it still tasted good at lunch.  He liked it even without sauce too.
